Randall,

If you find the number I would be interested in calling them and getting the
scoop on possible refitting, because I'm guessing they have done this. My
understanding is that the J type adapter plate is not available, so, if an
old Volvo A type is available this would be the one to target, or a 5 speed
Japanese tranny of some denomination.
Unfortunately my car is not worth the 2000.00 for the OD unit, but I bored
and rebuilt the engine, love driving it and it runs way too strong for the 4
spd gearbox. Highway driving is painful enough in LA, more so without a
reasonable top end.

Regards
Ed

Ed :

The shaft that ran from the gearbox into the OD was not made by Laycock, it
was made by S-T. Many of the gearbox gears ride on it inside the gearbox,
so it's obviously unique for different gearboxes, and for non-OD ones. I
suspect it (and the adaptor plate) are the major points of incompatibility.
However, Laycock definitely made lots of different variations for different
manufacturers, so it's entirely possible the splines in the OD are different
between Volvo and Triumph units.

Somewhere, I've got contact info for Overdrive Repair Services in the UK,
who can take a non-OD mainshaft and cut it down for OD use for around $160
(or was that 160 pounds ?). They could undoubtedly cut the correct splines
for the Volvo unit ...
