Many thanks to all of you who took the time to reply. Most popular
suggestion was to loosen the belt enough to stop the alternator from turning
and see if that is the problem. Others were intake manifold leaks and
vacuum leaks -- I'll take them all for action and see what I get. I knew I
could depend on you Listers -- thanks again!
