Protection depends on whether you have a true canvas or a Sunfast/Stayfast
cloth. True canvas must have protection added - it is water resistant:
translation - will leak pretty quickly in rain. Sunfast needs nothing.
Stretching. I have had Sunfast top and tonneau on my TR6 for many years. I
love the top because after nine months of top down, when the first rain hits
California the top goes up without that major push and pull required of the
vinyl. It pretty much just fits! Same with the tonneau. An added advantage
with the Sunfast tonneau is that it lasts much longer than the vinyl, 5 years
so far. I usually have just the driver side open with that portion of the
tonneau tucked behind the seat. Found that with the vinyl, the constant
rubbing against itself from putting up and down wore the tonneau - not with
the Sunfast.
The Sunfast versions are considerably more expensive, but worth it for
durability and look.
