I am interested in converting my "76 TR6 to PI. Knowing how scarce the
availability of Lucas PI systems, I would like to investigate the possibility
of putting together possibly an Elctronic Fuel Injection system from "off the
shelf components" Any constructive ideas out there? What kind of a system
should I be looking for? Someone has already suggested that perhaps an EFI
from a 2.5L BMW would fit the bill. Any help or pointing me in the right
direction would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Seth,
A very good lecture concerning EFI is the book Fuel Injection from
Motorbooks International by Jeff Hartman " ISBN0-87938-743-2.
I think you should read it before starting any conversion. To convert
direct to EFI is a good idea,so you avoid all problems connected to
the Lucas system and the modern fuel.
I converted my TR6 PI 2 years ago to Lumenition EFI ,I bought a
complete kit from Revingtontr in U.K., selecting the most simple
one as I wanted to fit it myself .As the car is only used on the road
not on the track, I choose a kit that is distributor triggered with data
pick up is from the dizzy and not from the crank. To note that the
dizzy is only used for data pick up and spark distribution, most of
the interiors have been locked up or removed. All together including
tune up on the dyno I spend more than 5000$ US.The basic price
of the kit is 2500Pounds, in addition comes uprated alternator (for
the six electronic solenoid type fuel injectors), PX air
filters, breather filter ,dyno etc. 600$ alone went into dyno for
calibration. If you go for Webcon (Weber Concessionairs) you will
start at 3000Pounds.
Some people in U.K. and Germany have converted PI TRs to EFI
via Bosch systems retaining some parts of the original inlet
manifold.A report was in TR Action and Triumph World. As far as I
remember the most expensive part of the exercise was the ECU
calibration as there is no ready program available for a TR6.
On my TR6 the ECU is calibrated via Laptop using the Lumenition
blank software, again $$$ for the software, but at least I can modify
the existing data should it be necessary.
Compared to the Lucas Injection the EFI system can cope with all
kind of fuels and weather conditions,no pinking, backfiring or vapor
lock.( EFI works at about half the fuel pressure required by Lucas
system ). The sensors used by the ECU are for: air pressure.
air inlet temp.,coolant temp, throttle position and crank position via
distributor.
On the dyno my car showed with standard PI engine and EFI
135HP on the rear wheels,a well tuned PI with Lucas Injection is
between 100 and 105HP.
You can see the EFI engine bay of my TR6 on Car Pictures website
look for a 1970 jasmine TR6.
I can scan you the Revigtontr info sheet if you wish to have a look
at. NFI from my side.
