Roger, you don't need a special thin wall socket, a regular socket will do.
 The nit on the end of the post is up fairly tight against the inside wall.
 Removing the fresh air vent will help greatly with access.

Don't forget to loosen the two clamp bolts on each side.  And don't be
surprised it the post is stuck to the socket.  I have had two windshield
where they were assembled when the paint was still soft and I had to remove
the socket completely and rotate back and forth to get it off of the
windshield post.
