I'm sorry to bomb the lists like this but I'm hoping that by spreading my
net wide, somewhere amongst the accumulated knowledge here someone may be
able to help me.
I got Baby Blue back from Southern Triumph Services in Bournemouth
yesterday, so much improved she's almost a new car. Mark & Rachel have done
a great job and I'd like to thank them (apart from paying the bill) by
finding out some more about a particular Spitfire they own. The following is
the information they already have:
Conifer green 1147cc Spitfire
Date of registration: 13 Oct 1963
Registration No: 3139 KV
Chassis No: FC 17473 O
Engine No: X.913E/4
It has a 4 cylinder 8 port aluminium head, high lift cam, tube exhaust, twin
40DCOE Webbers and a factory fitted Vitesse 1600 overdrive gearbox.
I'm told it was known as an "S2". It was an experimental/development car for
the research behind the Le Mans cars, S2 cars and ultimately the MkII &
MkIII by SAH, Sid Hurrell. This was a press car and was loaned to 'Autocar'
magazine circa 1964/65 to be one of their featured cars. Mark had heard that
they were so impressed by it they were loathe to return it.
I don't know if anyone can add any knowledge about this particular car or
even in more general terms. I sort of took it on as a challenge to try to
find out something new, particularly when Mark said he'd be surprised if I
could come up with anything. I'd dearly love to do just that so if anyone
can help I would really appreciate it.
On a similar theme, would anyone have any info on another car he has, a
Triumph 2.5PI Saloon, registered in 1970, XJB 303H. This one took part in
the London to Mexico City, Daily Mirror World Cup Rally but that's the only
info he had to hand on that one.
I know it might be a long shot but I'm keeping the faith that with so many
enthusiasts out there, that there just might be someone who can steer me in
the direction of something I can pass back to Mark & Rachel.
