I have also heard the STC stood for Standard Triumph Company, and rather
liked that story. It kinda makes these fine little cars special. But.....
One of my 62 TR-4s has an STC title, and on that title it plainly says
(below the VIN number and description) _Supplemental Title Certificate_.
This car has a commissioning number plate that has obviously been removed
and re-attached. Above the STC63CT13108L entry on the title is another
number, it is an 11 digit number. This number is identical to the number on
a plate riveted to the drivers side door jamb that also has _CHP_ imprinted
on it.
I also had, at one time, a 1959 Messerschmitt TG500. It also had an STC
title. Alas, that was 15 plus years ago. I wish I still had the car, and
the title to compare it to my current Triumph STC title. But, as I remember
it did not have a second plate anywere on the car, only the original VIN /
ID plate.
