Trust me.  The hole in the middle of the upper bushing is so large that I
think I would have little trouble getting the link off the stud.  I said
these things clunk on bumps, and I meant it.

Been there, done that.  The rubber that was used was rather shoddy and
tends to deteriorate over the 40 odd years that these things have been in
use.  <grin>

(Hey! Just kidding.  40 year old rubber is expected to fail.  The pity is
that the shocks themselves often last quite a bit longer)
