Re Jim Wallace's post of two or three days back about Sir John Black -
and many thanks for it!. Jim spoke briefly about the 'new' factory and
later submitted the URL for the website. While I don't have his
original post for reference, I feel its worth mentioning that the
factory in question is the Standard Motor Company's 'Aero 2' plant at
Banner Lane in Coventry and NOT the factory where Triumphs of all
models were made up to 1980. These were made at Canley in what was
originally known as Aero 1 and the two locations are about 3 miles
apart. For the record, Aero 2 was built as a wartime Shadow Factory
for the production of aircraft engines/components and while I believe
early TR's were made there it should not be regarded as "the Triumph
plant." Since the war, it has primarily been a tractor plant and is
still the UK base for Massey Ferguson.
