Finally a question I can answer! I've been wanting to help at least someone
on this list as a way of returning the favour of so much useful information
I've received. So - and speaking as a biologist here - my official advice
to your friend who wants to keep "mice and other rodents from using his car"
is this: get a lynx or a small cougar for the driver/passenger compartment
and a few snakes for the engine bay and boot. An owl or two probably
wouldn't hurt either. You could go with a bear but might have trouble
keeping the top intact.
How's that?

Subject: Outside Car Storage
List,
A friend of mine is finally going to do the honorable thing and pull the
engine from his TR4 and have it rebuilt over the winter. He is planning on
storing the car, less engine and gearbox, outside. He is wondering what the
best way was to deter mice and other rodents from using the car as a winter
retreat. I suggested moth balls or wiring with booby traps. Since he knew
that the list has been very helpful to me in the past, he thought it to be
good to solicit your ideas.
I'll foward any responses to him.
thanks,
