Actually, as Les Landon said, this translates as "song" or perhaps
"singing" pants! "Lied" is German for "song," and is generally applied to
country, or folk songs. Good chuckle there! The correct German word is
"Lederhosen," ("Leder" is leather in German) which are the short, suede
pants, usually a light gray or brown. The longer versions, which extend
to just below the knees, are called "Bunthosen." These are also of
leather.
