Jim :
I made my own puller by having a local machine shop turn a mandrel to
fit the bearing insert, and using a length of 3/4" threaded rod as a
puller. I don't have it handy, but you can get all the dimensions from
a new insert. The mandrel needs to be a little taller than the insert,
with most of it turned so it just fits inside the insert, and a ridge
slightly smaller than the OD of the insert. The center hole could be
either tapped to fit the threaded rod, or drilled large enough to clear
it (as mine was).
My tool worked slick, both to remove the old inserts and insert the new
ones. ISTR the mandrel cost me $10 (in 1972).
