Brightening SU Carb bodies

Is there a PROVEN method ( dip prefered) of brightening the Carb bodies.  I 
have tried several different brands of  aluminum cast wheel cleaner which, 
while they all clean quite well, they also don't brighten the aluminum.  I 
prefer not to polish as this will change the the original "look" of the carbs.
