Actually, 'normal' voltage is 12.6 volts (somewhat temperature dependant), and
it's very common for car batteries to carry a 'surface charge' of up to 14
volts if they have been recently fully charged and not discharged at all.
So don't (necessarily) go re-calibrating your voltmeter just yet <g>
