Jim Bromiel has asked for advice about replacing the dash pad on his TR-6. I
do not have experience with a TR-6. However, I believe theat the dash pad and
windshield configuration is essentially the same as that on my TR-4. In order
to replace the dash pad I had to remove the windshield. In order to remove the
windshield one should carefully study whatever manual is being used for
reference in order to locate the retaining nuts and bolts on the windshield
frame mount brackets. On the TR-4 they are located at forward upper part of
the door cutout adjacent to the dashboard. You may have to replace the seal
between the body and the windshield. I also had to separate the dashboard from
the part of the body which is beneath the dash pad. The dash pad in the TR-4
is in part held in place by the attachment of the dashboard to the body.
Separating the dashboard from the body requires removal of the glove box,
disconnection of the gauges and the controls and the lower dash bracket and
dash support. This is not an easy project but the new dash pad will look great
and when the old pad is off you will get to appreciate the original and unfaded
color of the body paint.
