The cam only wears at the tips of the lobes. During the regrind
process, the base circle is ground smaller, restoring the lift between
the base circle and the tip of the lobe. The small subsequent
difference in lifter height is taken up by valve adjustment (thinner
head gasket, head shaving, etc.).
