Any poor connection can reduce the cranking power of the starter. The
easiest way to check for poor connections is to measure the voltage
across the starter (terminal and case) when turning over the car, and
then measure the battery voltage at it's terminals when turning over the
car. Ideally, they should be the same, but never are. the larger the
difference between them, the more power is being wasted. You can track
the power lost in any paticular connection, including the solenoid, by
measuring the voltage across is during cranking. The voltage drop across
the solenoid should be low.
