I have a 61 (which is also a MKII) VG shape with no mechanical problems, no
(unfixed) rust. I paid $1500 a couple of years ago for it. I bought it to
have a LBC that I could drive while I was fixing up a spit. They are *fun*
cars, but not worth anything near what he is asking for his.
A 62 is a MKII sprite. I can find you a quite a few sprites for a *LOT*
less money. (between $1500-2500) A good bugeye (MKI) can be found for $6k
or less if you look around. Of course you can find $16K bugeyes and MKII's
if you look hard enough. Definitely doesn't mean that's market value. Even
on the much OVERPRICED eBay, sprites regularly sell for $3-6K

Subject: Austin Healy Sprite
Hello List:
I found an 1962 Austin Healy Sprite for sale today.
It seems to run well, I think it is mostly original and
has some surface rust peeking through the paint.
What would be a fair/good price to pay for this car?
The owner says he has only found 2 for sale on the
internet and they were $13k and $16k, respectively.
He is not asking quite that much for his Sprite. Ok
guys, I may be new to the list and to LBCs, but this
seems a bit out of line to me. It is in MUCH better
shape than either of my Spitfires, and is a pretty neat
looking car. If anyone is interested in the car, I can
get the guy's name and number for you. I get lunch
as a finders fee. :-}
