I put the dowels in no matter what. My wife's TR6 PO put the clutch back on
without dowels, and even though it was torqued down correctly, the plate
moved back and forth, eroding the threads on the bolts. I'm not sure if the
OEM bolts had the slightest shank to prevent this or not, but IMHO it is not
worth the chance of failure not to use the pegs.
