<<<Nothing but small drops of rusty fluid come out of the
drain hole even when the "tap" is removed and the engine if running.
The engine does not run hotter than when new ( I have had the car
since it was new) so it appears that the coolant is circulating. Does
anyone have intimate knowledge of the waterways in the block and a
suggestion of how I extract the blockage with taking the engine apart?

Ken how 'bout twirling a piece of wire in there when motor running to
dislodge rust/sediment jam. Last year I started up my TR4 motor after 15 year
storage and used a common cooling sytem Flusher (chemical mix) that seemed to
clear things up a bit. That was a few hundred miles before I blew the head
gasket. Now I have everything apart and knocked out quite a rust pile from
inside the upper block area (around and on the liners etc.) I don't think
there is much you can do from outside to remove rust build-up. I had 50/50
coolant mix during storage and am surprized at load of crud in block..of
course it hasn't been opened up since my rebuild in 1974!
Good Luck
