Ken,

I assume you are using the original distributor cap and the original rotor.
The only thing I can think of is that you don't have the rotor pushed down
all the way.  I'm running the same system on my TR3 without problems.  If
the rotor has interference and can't go down all the way, then I think the
Crane rotating shutter is not installed correctly.  ISTR that there is a
shoulder in the shaft that the rotor bottoms out on, and the top of the
Crane shutter should be even with the shoulder, so that it is below the
bottom of the rotor.  Check the drawings and instructions, which as I recall
could have been clearer.

While the rotor is off, it's a good idea to put a drop of oil into the hole
at the top of the shaft for lubrication, where the screw head is.

I asked on Monday about installation of an Crane electronic ignition, but
didn't get any responses about my problem.  I have a 71 TR6 I want to
install the ignition system on, but each time I have tried it the rotor
button has broken in half.  The rotor is obviously hitting the contacts on
the distributor cap, causing it to break.  Anyone currently running this on
their TR6?

What I'm wondering is do I have to file the bottom of the rotor button down
some to allow for the thickness of the shutter?  Or am I just installing
something wrong?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
