Ken,

I had the same problem as you described below of the rotor breaking  In my 
case I believe the contact plate jumped upward enough to cause the optical 
sensor to contact the rotor. My solution was to file the underside of the 
rotor to make more clearance. That stopped that problem. I've since gone to 
the Pertronix ignitor which uses the Hall effect sensor and haven't had any 
problems with parts flying into each other. The ignitor has been known to 
fail completely, however,so I carry a spare set of points.
