Subject: Spit/GT6 leaf removal tool.
Hi, Douglas.
I did this very wonderful job on my GT6 some time ago. I looked at the tool
specs in the manual but made a simpler version. This was just a big crowbar
(5ft long) and a short length of heavy chain fastened around it using a
5/16" bolt. Here are some hints...
1. If you loosen the spring centre plate nuts on top of the diff., the
spring loses a fair bit of preload, making removal/replacement easier.
2. When you lift the spring eye to meet the through bolt hole on the rear
upright, it will go out of alignment. I used a tapered drift and soft mallet
to solve this one.
3. It is quite easy to lift the car off the stands with the leverage you
have. You will need at least one body to sit in the boot to keep the car
down when you lift the spring.
4. Keep your feet, fingers and any other valued items of your anatomy out of
the way.
Good Luck,
Dave Hill
Say, what's the latest on these? I've unfortunately lost all the mail
regarding the repro units being made up. (Can't even blame Bill-- this
is a Microsoft-free machine I'm using.) And, I can't remember the name
of the kind soul who went to all the trouble for the rest of us. Would
someone please send me an update off-list?
