Martin,
Indexing is alligning the spark plug with the intake valve. If you use standard
single
electrode plugs this is VERY important. You will need a set of indexing washers
from
you local speed shop. They come in 3 thicknesses. first you remove the plugs,
place a
mark (magic marker is good ) on the outside of the plug which denotes where the
open
part of the electrode points. This is where the spark will appear. The trick is
to
allign this with the intake valve, or get it pointed in the direction of the
intake
valve as close as you can. The closer the spark is to the intake the better and
more
complete the combustion is going to be. If the spark is behind the electrode,
for
example, this is not good for ignition, the electrode is blocking the spark. It
made a
big difference on my TR3A, I have also been told that a tune-up lasts longer. I
have
just indexed my 1974 T140V (750 Bonneville) and cant wait to start it up to see
the
difference indexing makes on a motorcycle. However we just received over 12" of
fresh
white stuff, may be a week
Good luck,
Bob Labuz
