The gas gauge and the temp gauge acting up makes me suspect the voltage
stabilizer, which is mounted on the back of the speedo. I'm no electrical
whiz, but I know that those gaiges act weirdly when the stabilizer goes out.

I will tell you from personal experience that unless those fuses are rated
EXACTLY the same as the Lucas fuses, you want them out of your car as soon
as possible. I had US made 35 amp fuses in my car last summer when a short
developed in my electrical system. Instead of blowing a fuse, I ended up
with a melted wiring harness, which I have just finished replacing. Lucas 35
amp fuses and US 35 amp fuses are not the same (there have been several
informative posts on this list regarding this).
