    as an owner of a '67 "non-matching numbers" corvette, i can assure you
that the phrase indicates whether or not the car has the ORIGINAL engine
matching the body that it left the factory with. this enhances the value
tremendously.
    you may also see ads for classic cars that have "NOM" in the
description. it is my understanding this stands for "not original motor",
which allows mere mortals like myself an opportunity to own a piece of
automotive history because the value is less.
    this is why when you see a car being sold or auctioned that is a low
mileage or  all-original example, typically it brings a much higher price,
even if it's not in concours condition.
