Glen,

Try this to see if it's a "vapor lock" or hot fuel problem in the carbs. Take
a sheet of aluminum foil about 24" long and put it between your exhaust manifold
and your carbs. Do it when the engine is cold and you can tuck the edges of
foil up in between the manifold runners so that it will stay there for a drive
or two. Let most of it extend out over the exhaust manifold. This is a crude
heat shield, but it helped my hot start problems and now I'm looking to do some
type of permanent heat shield. Until I come up with a permanent solution I'll
just keep the foil under there and anytime someone sees it I'll say in a real
loud voice, "Oh no, the potatoes fell out again."
