Geo,

I had to do this on my car last year.   Not difficult.   I would remove the 
distributor first... I think it will be easier to line things 
up.   Although I never tried it your way... may be better.

You will have to experiment with a long screw driver to line up the dog on 
the oil pump with the drive shaft and the camshaft drive gear.
