To THE GROUP:
Thanks for all the help and suggestions. It appears this problem has been
had by many others for many reasons.
The final solution to my problems was finally stronger springs. I went to
the hardware store and found slightly stronger return springs. When I
installed them the car would not idle cold, a new and good condition. I had
to use the choke and fast idle as designed. Hot, I now idle at 850. It is
great and much easier to drive. I guess over time the original springs on
the 50,000 mile doner car had become weak since they sit right over the
exhaust manifold.
With my set up I am not sure that new original springs would have gotten me
closed. I also guess that over time the brass butterflies may seat in the
old carbs better with a little usage. We shall see.
Thanks again,
