bought the car last summer... it had the same symptom and I replaced
the unit with one from MOSS.  TRF had no stock.
Looks like the exact same failure again.  Anybody seen this behavior
before and have any advice on a source for a reliable part.>>

that's probably why they discontinued that kind of switch ..my TR4 CT22363 
somethingerother has the mechanical switch right at the master cylinder block 
and is a very simple and so far, 25 years, trouble free...if you're willing 
to change your wiring, drill a hole and screw in a push button switch at the 
block you may never have the problem again-but I can't blame you if you want 
to keep it stock...
