Had a '75 with similar malady.  Wouldn't hurt to bleed.  And if no improvement
rebuild. However, could be symptoms of synchro problems in the tranny.  The
extra time you give it with a "2-second" shift gives the worn syncros a chance
to work.  Hope it isn't the tranny  :-(
