I think it's a flatliner...

Driving the TR6 today. I've had the car about a month now. Sorting out the
usual problems... the least of which was a *slight* whine in first gear (I
can see a couple of guys chuckling behind their hands already..).

So I'm on my way to day care to pick up the tot, and then in first gear I
hear *Chunk-- CHUNK!!* then a couple of more. I shif to second..
*CHUNK-CHUNK-ScrEEEEEEEEEEE!*.

Turing instandtly and making for home, the noises abate except for an
occasional muted *Chunk* from the 'box. Whatever it was, I felt it thru the
shift knob (I know that's a pretty indirect diagnosis) and it *sounded* like
it came from the trans tunnel.

My guesses are:

1) Laygear tooth
2) Fragged syncro/balking ring
3) Throwout bearing (??)
4) rearend

Any thoughts appreciated before I take the trans apart to see if there is a
metallic art project awaiting me!

Thanks- you are a great resource as always!
