Well, I've done this but it was about 8 years ago and I don't remember it
being particularly difficult. I'm sure I would have used plain old
dishwashing soap to ease it and since I do not recall any problems I expect
that worked.
Be sure the tracks are real clean and try stretching the rubber as much as
you can/dare as you pull it in as this will make it thinner and easier to
move along... just don't trim the rubber until it has set awhile as the
stretching will elongate it a bit and it will slowly contract back to the
length it will finally be.
I didn't understand your comment about "putting the glass back in the frame
with rubber"... isn't the glass just jammed into the frame with a cloth-like
material along the edge?
BTW: Olive oil is only for use on Italian cars.
