Re: Fred's Waiting Period. I've had contact with Mark at BAS, and he called
me twice within a few days. At the time I was looking for a Judson
supercharger, which he had "on a shelf." He wanted $1300 for it, and $1200
for a D-type Overdrive I was also looking for. I passed. However, I
suppose because of the money involved that my message took priority over
others, in order to give me the more timely responce.
Re: Used Prices. Having worked for a vendor which sells used parts, you
aren't just paying for the part. Most LBC used parts vendors do not have
the man power to part entire cars and warehouse them, so they just
accumulate cars and when a customer calls, someone is sent to remove the
part from the given car (a piece at a time, until the car is useless - which
takes a very very long time). So what you are paying for is the price of
the part and the man's time to remove & clean the part.
What every used parts vendor loves is a customer who is hell bent on
building his 100%all original, concourse winning car, because the vendor can
put any price on the part and the customer will purchase it without
question. Much the same with NOS parts, especially brightwork (an NOS MGA
grille? No problem sir... that will be uh, $500!).
The other problem with used parts is that the people buying them never
expect what they recieve. Sorry, many of these cars are on the verge of 40
yearsold ... with the majority of the popular ones aging 30 years now. Used
parts that are 30+ years old are never in very good condition, I consider a
good used part one that I can refurbish (ie. rechrome, rebuild, etc).
The best way to purchase used parts is in person...
