I don't know that the leaner conclusion is correct. When you are spraying
carb cleaner in you are replacing combustible mixture with carb cleaner. I'd
expect it to cough a bit on it. Are you sure the choke is actually shutting
all the way off. There is a high idle cam that raises the idle while the
choke is on. You should expect idle to rise as it warms up, which is why
there is a choke with high idle to start the cold engine. As it warms you
shut the choke off to lean the mixture and return the high idle to normal.

Mind you I have a tr6 rather than the gt6, but i'd be surprised it wasn't a
comparable setup. I have a 69 without the emissions stuff, so if its in
there I know nothing about that system, but I suspect one or both chokes are
sticking open or a butterfly is not closing fully. On the tr6, with a fully
warm engine idle should be about 850 and 11-1300 on the high idle.

OK...my GT6+ (emmision Stromberg CDs) get a real high idle when the car
warms up. At that point I have very little engine braking as well. I've
sprayed carb cleaner around the throttle shafts to see if there was a leak
there. They seem tight, as there's no change in idle when I soak them during
these "fast idle" times. When I shoot some carb cleaner in the air cleaner
throat, the RPMs drop a lot. So, it seems I'm leaning out once I warm
up...right?

Where do I go from here?
