Fred,
        It sounds like your stador tube is cracked. The upper portion of the
stador tube has a slot in it that engages the bumps on the control head
extension. The tubes tend to crack at the end of the slot from the force
of the torque in turning the wheel. I don have new stador tubes in stock
if you determine that to be the problem. I supply them in stainless
steel because it is stronger material. If you need help in removing the
control head to check, let me know an I will be glad to help you.
