Let me defend myself (maybe)...

I'm not quite the airport wus it sounds like. We flew to the VTR
convention using deeply discounted tickets (our daughter works for an
airline) that have one small catch: you fly standby. Basically that
means you don't check luggage, since you don't know which flight you can
get on, or, depending on flight loads, where you will end up (there are
four major airports on the LA area). The upshot of this is you lug all
your luggage through every airport and carry it onto every flight.
Leaving VTR, we found all flights out of Portland overbooked. After
hanging out at the Portland airport for most of the day, it became
obvious we weren't going to get out. On to plan "B". Rent a car
(seventy five bucks, plus tolls and gas!) and drive to Boston. To make
a long and boring story shorter (finally), we did get home to Southern
California late that night. And yes, I was glad I didn't have to lug
wire wheels through those airports and onto all those flights.
Whew...after crying crocodiles, I feel better now... Dennis
