Ken -- In addition to all the possibilties cited so far... I have had the no-spark condition because the points were not making contact although visually they looked fine. Was some sort of contamination (oil or whatever) so the points never really closed and no spark could build in the coil. Was diagnosed by checking closed points for continuity with an ohmmeter.
