Don't be too quick to blame environmental conditions for your
deterioration. I have original, cloth covered (cloth has since ripped)
radiator hoses on the old 1296 Spitfire engine that I have stored,
uncovered in my shed for about 17 some years, and those hoses are still in
decent shape. The ones on my GT6 which were replaced during the
restoration are now showing signs of needing replacement, and the
replacement (not repro) window glazing started to crack after 3 years while
the original (stored, was replaced because at the time I figured it would
be wise to replace it, my mistake) is still in good condition. I would say
that the new materials are not as good, or the original materials are not
available, for whatever reason-
