Fred,
I would suspect the air filter "plugged" on back-firing if that is
possible on this car (I have no idea). I would ask more details, however,
such as is it able to rev up, etc. not under load.
Reminds me of an acquaintance who "problem solved" for a living. After
GM
had tried different carbs, dizzys, exhaust AND after running without the
hood (bonnet) on a new car line in the early 70's that couldn't go over
sixty, an engineer was strapped to the hood that had a plexiglas insert and
at 60, it was observed that the "change anti-freeze" tag would fly around
and close off the air filter horn. Lots of bucks spent on that
diagnosis..... sometimes its the little things.
