Hi all
In round one of my duel with Lucas he/she still has the upper hand. I
isolated my headlights not lighting problem to the column mounted dimmer
switch. That was the first night. Second night was attempted to fix it
in place. Third night (last night) was giving up on fixing and biting
the bullet to attempt replacement. I loosened the upper steering column
clamp which allowed me to remove the old switch wire harness with a
moderate amount of tugging. I've also been able to start feeding the
new harness through that stupid narrow slot under the column but it is
getting hung up on something. I can't raise the column any higher as it
contacts the dash but I feel I still need another 1/8 inch or so to be
able to feed the harness through. I think it's only the black sheath
that is hung up but I've pulled on the wires behind the dash as hard as
I dare and it just won't budge.
Any suggestions as to how I can find that 1/8 inch? The thought of
removing the tach and speedo to remove the dash is a little more than
intimidating to me just to feed the wires through. Should I just loosen
them a bit to allow the dash to move? Should I loosen the lower part of
the clamp that is bolted behind the dash?
While I'm under the dash I want to fix the gauge lights which also do
not work. Can I just pull the wires off the back of the rheostat and
connect them together to bypass the rheostat all together. I don't know
if gauge lights are required for safety inspection but I figure I'd
better do it anyway.
