I have also read where people have used tubes as spacers, combined with longer
bolts, such that the bolts' heads are more outboard i.e. more accessible with a
socket. Or to put it another way, put tubes between the shocks and the
underside of the heads of the bolts.
I don't recall whether the tubes were pieces of plumbing; I guess it musn't be
too hard to come up with something. Maybe you'd want to use washers between the
tubes and the shocks too. Of course this all implies that you've been able to
get the existing bolts off in the first place.

Anyone want to split a box of 1" x 5/16 UNF socket head bolts ?
(assuming the local "hardware by the pound" store doesn't have them)
