could it be the cable is kinked a little along the line somewhere (or lacks
lubrication throughout the inside cable) sounds like it's 'binding up then
letting loose' resulting in the 'bouncing needle' syndrome. May want to dunk
entire cable in oil and then route as smoothly as possible...
