Not that I'm an expert, but I recently bought a newly rebuilt O/D trans from
my TR3B. The builder (Quantum Mechanics) sent along an instruction sheet
that said to only use "non-detergent straight 20W to straight 40W" in the
overdrive trans. I called him to see if he recommended the same for the Spit
(J type) and he said yes. He said that the 80-90W leads to too much wear on
the o/d.
