If you received this already, forgive me, I lost the original in the
ether somewhere.  
>From my official factory TR4 manual, the bent part is called, oddly
enough, a "cross shaft."  On one end is a "pedal bush" held on the shaft
by a "mills pin."  The other end shows a "plain washer, and a "split
pin." Looks like those two hold the shaft to one of the brackets. 
There's nothing in the picture that shows anything welded, so you
probably could take one end apart and slide it loose from the other. 
I remember bending mine doing something similar to what you did.  I 
straightened it in place; the thing is still bent a bit, but the ends
are supported by spherical bearings that allow for the bend, and it
doesn't bind at all.  It's pretty soft metal and bends back fairly
easily.  If you're looking for purity, however, disassembly appears to
be straightforward, and should go back together fairly easily.
