Geez, next thing ya know, they'll be tryin' to put power windows and door
locks in a Vitesse. Or Heaven forbid, an automatic transmission! By the
time it's all over with, it will have dual front airbags, 500lbs of sound
deadening material, digital gauges, boulevard ride, air conditioning, add a
turbocharger so the car can get out of it's own way, nice comfy leather
seats..... Hey, wait a minute, I just described my Nissan 300ZX Turbo (minus
the airbag, insert wife joke here).... ;-) Well, my Vitesse would love to
have the nice comfy leather seats, maybe in time!

I don't think I could let this thread go on any longer without some comment...
Re the front suspension wishbones, yes they are indeed all the same on GT6,
Spitfire, Herald and Vitesse cars. Do watch out for the condition of the
larger lower wishbones, they work hard, are close to the ground, and they do
get damaged and twisted over the years.
As to power steering. I must admit that I have never seen anyone do this, but
I can say that a GT6 owning engineer friend of mine once told me that he had
considered it but discovered that the front suspension turret is in the way.
I would never say that it is impossible to do it, just very difficult and
probably not worth it.
If you find the steering too heavy, then consider buying a Spitfire or Herald,
or maybe work on those arm muscles ?
I happily admit that my Vitesse has rather heavy steering, but I enjoy the
challenge of driving a car that needs to be driven, instead of your just
having to be there!
Power Windows, I have seen in several Vitesse Convertibles, one car even ha
sthem linked to the electronic alarm system that automatically raises them
when the alarm is remotely activated!!!
I know that a popular fitment is Triumph Acclaim aka Honda Ballade electric
window motors which sell for about 35 GBP/pair here.
One of the people that I know with power windows in his Vitesse Convertible,
(no not me!), has indeed got an automatic transmission BW65 I believe...in his
car.
It is a restored chassis originally built by Standard-Triumph for a disabled
gentleman by special order.
It makes a very fine towing vehicle I believe!
For that matter, one of the members of TRSC (Hi Steve), did a terrific job of
converting his father's beautiful delft-blue TR6 to auto, so that he could
still drive it after a stroke left him very weak on his right-side.
Before you all throw your hands up in horror! It is beautifully executed, with
no outward signs of the reversible conversion, and even the gear lever still
looks like a manual stick shift!
No front airbags on Vitesses yet, but give it time!!!
As to sound deadening material, my own Vitesse Convertible has two complete
sets of Mercedes Benz sound deadening pads stratigically located to reduce
drumming and other unwanted noises.
And a friend of mine with a 4000 GBP sound system has so much MDF in his
Vitesse, I am surprised that it still moves at all...but it does move, and
darn fast too, with triple Webers etc...no it is NOT mine!!!
Then of course there is a pretty well known GT6-3 with a very big
GarrettAiResearch Turbocharger and Nitrous Oxide injection and Weber 45DCOE
etc etc on it.
That sure can get out of it's own way, and probably yours too given half a
chance.
Comfy leather seats huh, so what ?
and why not ?
The original seats are not much to write home about are they ?
If you want a pair that will fit you Vitesse, get them, and their ball-
bearing-race runners, from a scrapped/parted-out Jaguar XJ6 (mid 1970's
model), or if you want them to recline, then you'll need the XJ6C seats.
Humpf, Leather seats I may have, but at least I don't have a Nissan !!!
and even if I did, I probably wouldn't have the guts to admit it on this
list!!!

although I will admit that I drove a friend's 84 Ford Cosworth Sierra the
other day, and was genuinely impressed with the cars comportment, handling,
acceleration and brakes, even the seats and the stereo...the windshield
demister was rubbish though...
