John,

FWIW:

I carried my TR6 head into the local machine shop, with the old valves,
springs, keepers, and collars in a baggie. Picked it up the next day. They
bead blasted and baked it, skimmed the head to true it up, installed 12 new
valve guides, 12 new oil seals, 6 hardened exhaust valve seats, did a valve
job, and reassembled the head, all for $218, tax included. They either had the
parts on hand or had them delivered overnight. Alcoa is a small town, where
you wouldn't expect a lot of business with our cars. I'm assuming the parts
they used were of the "universal" nature, suitable for use on most any engine.
As far as I can tell, there's no difference between the heads on our cars and
most any American car, other than the obvious (our cars have two cylinders
missing, for example).
