I sort of threw together a mechanical restoration of a car that had sat
for 20 years... I've been driving it off and on for several years now...
accumulating maybe 13,000 miles. I kept the original harness... but
cleaned up most of the connections... installed rebuilt
generator/starter... new battery cables, regulator... etc..

Knock on wood... but I have not had a generator problem since. A rebuilt
starter went bad, but was respaired under warranty.

the car often sits for long periods... then faces daily driving for
weeks... then sits... then I take it to San Francisco... (from Los
Angeles), etc... The car remains quite reliable.

I share this... simply to point out... that a TR with a generator, can
still be a "turn-key" car... I understand the attraction of
converting... but it may or may not be what is best for you and your car.

If you do go through with it.... do try to make a clean job of it!
