I am not even sure it is correct for a TR4A. That "Conifer" seems much too
light/minty. It is clearly different than my original XXX Racing Green
lacquer.
I AM PRESENTLY PAINTING MY 1967 TR-4A IRS WITH A VERY SIMILAR PRODUCT (A SINGLE
PACK URETHANE FROM SOLO), MINE IS SOLO NUMBER RM 8307, WHICH CORRESPONDS TO
MFG CODE 25 ( TRIUMPH RACING GREEN OR CONIFER). IT SELLS FOR $43 /QUART WHERE
I BUY
IT. I HAVE SPRAYED THE INTERIOR OF THE BODY AND INTERIOR OF THE BOOT, PLUS
INTERIOR AND
OTHER SURFACES OF BOTH DOORS (EXC. EXTERIOR). THIS IS NOT A LIGHT/MINTY GREEN.
IT IS
PRETTY DARK, BUT CLEARLY A BRG, IN MY JUDGEMENT. THIS IS THE COLOR CODE (25)
THAT
THE BRG (TRG) TR-4A'S WERE PAINTED IN 1965-69, ACCORDING TO THE BOOK I STUDIED.
IT IS
MUCH DARKER THAN THE BRG THAT A 1969 MGB CARRIED, AS I HAVE HAD THESE TWO SIDE
BY SIDE FOR
COMPARISON. TR-4's OF DIFFERENT YEARS WILL BE PAINTED WITH DIFFERENT MFG
CODES, THOUGH,
NOT ALL ARE THIS CONIFER GREEN.
TO USE THIS PAINT, YOU MUST PUT THE COATS ON VERY WET (ALMOST RUNNING, WERE MY
INSTRUCTIONS.)
AND IT PRODUCES A VERY NICE SURFACE. I HAVE NOT YET PAINTED THE EXTERIOR
(NEARLY READY THO!)
ALSO, DON'T SPRAY IT WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WILL DIP BELOW 60F DURING THE NEXT
FEW HOURS, OR
(I'M TOLD) YOU WILL NOT BE A HAPPY CAMPER.
I JUST BOUGHT A 1998 FORD WINDSTAR VAN, WHICH IS PAINTED IN A DARK GREEN WHICH
IS VERY
SIMILAR TO THE COLOR WE ARE DESCRIBING, EXCEPT THE VAN HAS A BIT OF METALLIC
FLAKE IN IT.
I DON'T RECALL THE NAME OR CODE OF THIS COLOR.
I ALSO NOTE THAT THERE IS AN INTERESTING GREEN FOR SOME OF THE NEW ROVER'S
WHICH I
SAW IN THE PAINT BOOK WHILE SELECTING THE CODE I USED: IT IS CALLED (I THINK)
RACING
GREEN METALLIC, AND IT IS MUCH LIKE THE COLOR ON MY VAN. IT REALLY TEMPTED ME,
BUT
I STUCK WITH THE ORIGINAL CODE FOR THE YEAR MODEL.
I REALLY LIKE THIS PAINT. IT GOES ON VERY EASILY, AND SEEMS TO BE A GOOD
SELECTION
FOR THE "AMATEUR" (WHICH WAS MY PRIMARY SELECTION CRITERIA.)
BEST REGARDS,
RAY JAMES
