Thanks to all that responded to my request for help on my starter problem.  My
first item on the agenda, is to meter the condition of the windings.  If they
are good then I 'll get into the other suggestions.  If bad, I may try a local
rebuilder of starters and electrics who does a lot of American classic and
antique cars.  I don't know how much experience he has had on English, but I
was told that the he has worked on many" positive ground "cars from the pre 50
era.  It's a start, no pun intended.
